Navigating the complexities of life, whether it involves empty nesting, estrangement, divorce, mental illness, or addictions, can be challenging and deeply personal. Each of these experiences brings its own set of emotions and requires understanding and compassion. Empty nesting, for example, can lead to feelings of loss or freedom as children leave home, while estrangement and divorce might cause heartache and a reevaluation of personal relationships. Mental illness and addictions, on the other hand, demand patience, support, and sometimes professional help. Balancing hobbies, aging, and caregiving can offer a sense of purpose and fulfillment, even in the face of life's challenges. For many, Christianity and prayer provide solace, guiding individuals through difficult times and helping them set and achieve personal goals. Regardless of the circumstance, the journey is unique to each person, and it's crucial to foster an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported. Remember, it's okay to seek help and lean on communities that offer understanding and encouragement. My platform was created for women who are learning to doing different. My conversations will include issues that involve menopause, being an empty nester, widow, caregiver, discrimination, PTSD, health issues, chronic pain, mental illness, weight gain, anxiety, or depression and faith-based help. At times home remedies and herbal teas will be discussed for self care. My goal is to invite authors, podcasters, and bloggers who are also Doing Different in their journey.

Rediscover who you are beyond motherhood

Lisa J. Allen, a confidence coach, shares how ministry shaped her, stretched her, and sometimes wounded her, and how God met her in it as well as how He taught her to thicken her skin without hardening her heart. She talks about learning to build confidence in yourself, getting rid of self-doubt, plugging in to recharge, and asking yourself the question "Who do YOU think you are?" and what it really means to depend on the Holy Spirit instead ofjust trying harder. You can grow stronger without growing colder. If you’ve been carrying hurt while still showing up for everyone else… this one is for you!

If you're in a season of Doing Different, don’t skip this one!

Lisa also shares how real mindset change, real forgiveness, real transformation… only comes through the power of the Holy Spirit. That hit me! Think about it!

In a cozy corner of the world where we slow down, breathe deep, and remember that we are allowed to begin again.

Today’s episode is an invitation to rediscover yourself through the gentle, grounding magic of creativity. Maybe it’s sewing a crooked first stitch. Maybe it’s quilting a story only your hands understand. Maybe it’s embroidery, painting, writing that book you’ve been carrying in your heart, or simply opening a journal and letting the words spill out like truth finally finding its voice.

These aren’t just hobbies. They’re therapy. They’re reclamation. They’re the quiet ways we come home to ourselves after seasons of forgetting.

And the beautiful part is — the possibilities are endless. There is no right way to start, no perfect moment, no permission slip needed. Just you, your curiosity, and the courage to try.

So what are you waiting for. Your time is now. Lean into the softness, the color, the texture, the story. Embrace the therapy of creativity and let it lead you back to the parts of yourself that have been waiting to be seen.

Carolyn Doelling is a great example, she started her modeling career at 72! These women aren't afraid (or they are and they do it anyway) to pursue their dreams and understand age isn't a barrier. We can reinvent ourselves at any age or any stage.

She loves using her voice for good. She loves the opportunity to celebrate, illuminate and elevate midlife and older women. In a world that doesn't value age and wisdom, especially in women, shining a light on the extraordinary ways women are reinventing themselves is pure joy.

She loves the opportunity to light a path for others (and herself) about what's possible as we age. Our experiences can be as exciting and remarkable as we decide we want them to be. No ceiling here, just pure possibilities. One of her guests in season 4 is pursuing her full-time passion for acting at 85!

It's an honor for Wendy to share these remarkable stories and help disrupt the limited notions about aging in our society.

What makes her different from others in the same industry is that she infuses everything she does with pure inspiration and joy. There are many podcasts out there about midlife women and related issues. Hers is different because she focuses on midlife and older women and combines that with the idea of reinvention. The idea is that it's never too late to reinvent ourselves. She shares compelling and inspiring stories about women who have already reinvented themselves to serve as inspiration for women who are unsure. Women who want to but don't even know where to start. The women she features are incredibly joyful and full of life, their stories make you realize that if they can do it, we can each do it in our own unique way.

She is part joy spreader, part inspirer with a healthy dose of fierce.

Since she was a young girl, she always wanted to write a book. As an adult she thought about sharing her life story of chronic pain, domestic abuse and mental illness. But she struggled to know exactly how to write it and when. But in the summer of 2018 that all became crystal clear to her. One day she sat down in her dining room, with her laptop, and started writing. She wrote and she wrote and she wrote. Eight weeks later she had a first draft – about 120 pages and 18 chapters. After those eight weeks Grace was stricken with a debilitating depression. For month after month after month she was stuck and sat despondent in her recliner. Then in March 2020 she started feeling better. In June she decided that she needed to add “the rest of the story,” as Paul Harvey used to say. She finished her story and started looking for a publisher.Today Grace lives with her husband in a small farming community, not far from where she grew up. She and her husband have four grown children and nine grandchildren. This is what her book (Our Only Hope: Living a Life of Freedom) is all about: “For those trying to weather through the storms of life, Grace Rockwell offers encouragement by sharing her own experiences and what she has learned from them. Growing up with chronic pain and in a negative abusive environment, where she was often rejected and alone, Grace learned to put her trust in the Lord. No matter what storms she faced, or how much pain she endured, Grace always came back to the Lord for help.Grace’s experiences will encourage you as you face your own storms in life. She reassures the reader that we can trust that God is always with us; He has a plan and a purpose for our lives. Our Only Hope will take you along Grace’s journey to find that the redemptive power of God is our only hope and it can become an anchor for our souls.Grace’s passions include not only spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, but also advocating for those suffering from chronic pain, domestic abuse and/or mental illness.”Disclaimer: This Podcast is my own personal project and is inspired by my experiences with Modern Prairie but is not affiliated with Modern Prairie.
